A private primary school for grades 1–4 under the Ministry of Education. Up to 20 pupils per class; each class has a class teacher plus specialist teachers for English, music, visual arts and PE.

Primary pupils building a neighbourhood model in class

In primary school our core aims are fluent reading, a solid sense of number and the habit of asking questions. We follow the national curriculum and link part of the lessons to term projects.

Project terms

Every term has a class project: 2nd graders build a model of their neighbourhood, 4th graders measure the school's water use. At the end, parents are invited into the classroom.

Homework

In grades 1 and 2 there is reading and small family tasks instead of written homework. In grades 3 and 4 homework is planned to stay under 30 minutes a day.

English

Ten hours of English a week; two of them are a drama and story workshop.

A day

Times are a typical day; they may change on event and trip days.

By the end of the year

  • Using the four operations in everyday problems
